‘Pictorial History of Scotland’ (1884-1888)

We, here at RSH, are very excited to have received a recent donation of books from Mr Graham Christie, a supporter of the site. This is a ‘New and Enlarged’ 6 volume set of a 2 volume set we were previously anonymously donated. The wealth of information in these books is astounding and I can’t wait to get round to transcribing them for the page. They’re beautifully bound with tactile front covers the team were stroking in place of the cats for a while. They’re undated but I’m reliably informed they were published between 1884 and 1888. They were published in London by H. Virtue & Co., possibly the son of James S. Virtue, publisher to the first 2 volume set in 1859. The illustrations are, as the title suggests, prevalent and very clean throughout. I feel it would probably be easier to transcribe this, more complete, set being as they’re not quite as monstrous as individual volumes as the other edition in the collection.
