‘Rab and His Friends’ was a story written in 1859 by Dr. John Brown. It’s set in Glasgow and is a short story about a dog (Rab) and his life. It’s quite a sad wee story and I’ll transcribe it for the interested as it makes for a beautiful read.
The book itself, I had the fortune to obtain, is bound in a plummy red suede. It’s so fragile though that the edges of the illustrations, that back the outer suede, crumble when handled in a less than respectful way. The pages are gold-edged. It’s a mere 10 x 7 cms, it’s a fantastic copy and I don’t know that it’s a particularly common publication of it as it’s not a copy I can readily find online.
I hope you can appreciate as much as I do what a lovely wee thing it is.
