THE First Edition of the “Prophecies of the Brahan Seer,” which appeared only eight months ago, went out of print in a few months; and though only a reprint from the Celtic Magazine, without even a re-setting of the types, and containing many blemishes of style and arrangement, it was received by the Press and the public in a manner for which I am glad so soon to have this agreeable opportunity of expressing my gratitude. This Edition is considerably enlarged; and I venture to hope it will be found in all respects superior to the first. I acknowledge with pleasure the fact that the public and the trade have already accepted it, to a great extent on trust, by subscribing for it extensively in advance. No doubt this is largely due to the confidence placed, by a large number of such as take an interest in Celtic matters, in my friend the REV. ALEXANDER McGREGOR, M.A., who has written the main part of the APPENDIX on the “Superstition of the Highlanders,” published herewith, specially for this Edition – a small portion only being a re-cast of his articles on the same subject which recently appeared in the Celtic Magazine.
